Andrew Maxwell: Yo Contraire // Review @ Edinburgh Fringe 2015

Andrew Maxwell is a well established comedian by now, with this show marking his 21st Fringe appearance. He clearly knows what he is doing.

Yo Contraire sees Maxwell chat about immigration, Scotland, religion alongside a variety of stories regarding is personal life including his family wedding. All of these subjects flow really well with any taboos attached them quickly being dropped due to his relaxed nature on stage which makes you feel like you’re conversing with him in your living room.

Some comedians just don’t suit the one hour format, Maxwell is one of these. His long anecdotal stories and calming presence makes the hour fly by, leaving us wanting substantially more. An evening with would of been a much better format, especially in such a grand venue.

You can see “Andrew Maxwell: Yo Contraire” at the Assembly George Square Theatre until the 30th August at 22:30. For more information including tickets, click here.
