An Edinburgh Fringe veteran with Showtime being his 22nd show, Andrew Maxwell returns to offer a unique perspective on today’s political climate while touching on his retreat to Kent.
Maxwell’s stage presence is effortless, it makes the enormous Assembly George Square Theatre feel like tiny Free Fringe venue with it’s intimacy. It also lets him challenge the audience with his political and religious views without feel confrontational, something that’s very hard to achieve. Locked into sixty minutes, I felt like I could of sat there for hours to hear all of his stories.
Contrary to the title, there’s no glitz and glam. It’s an expertly constructed hour that manages to navigate through a variety of difficult subject matters while having a good time.
Andrew Maxwell: Showtime is on at 9pm everyday at the Assembly George Square Theatre until the 27th August
